What we stand for

Tackling illicit alcohol

Seven out of every ten drinks consumed in Uganda are unregulated, untaxed and potentially dangerous. We lead the charge against illicit trade because it threatens lives, starves the Treasury and undercuts legitimate businesses.

Responsible drinking & education

We champion responsible marketing codes and public education. Our members invest in programmes that promote informed choices and help communities tackle harmful consumption.

Keeping alcohol away from minors

Alcohol has no place in the hands of young people. We enforce strict age verification across our supply chains and support every effort to keep minors away from alcohol products.

Fair, evidence-based regulation

We welcome sensible regulation and work constructively with the government. We ask that policy be shaped by data, target the real problem (illicit alcohol) and recognise the economic contribution of the regulated sector.

The regulated alcohol sector contributes 4.9% of national GDP and pays over UGX 1 trillion in taxes annually. UAIA members are consistently ranked among Uganda’s top five taxpayers.
